What each lid really does

Three words get used loosely in this category, and the difference between them is a wet backpack. Splash-proof keeps a drink in while the cup stands up. Spill-resistant means a sealing gasket, but nobody promised you a bag. Leak-proof means the maker says it holds on its side. This table is built from the sentences in the Ideus listings themselves, and when two listings for one piece disagree we publish the more modest of the two.

  • Leak-proofthe maker states it holds when the vessel goes on its side
  • Spill-resistantgasket seals against knocks, but nothing is claimed about a bag
  • Splash-proofkeeps drinks in while it stands upright
  • Not statedthe listing says nothing either way

Figures on this page are what the maker states in its own Amazon listings, read on 24 August 2026. They are the maker's numbers, not ours: we have not run our own thermometer over this range, and where a listing says nothing, this site says nothing.

Three words do the work in this category, and the gap between them is the difference between a damp receipt and a ruined laptop. Splash-proof means the lid keeps the drink where it is while the vessel stands upright and someone walks past. Spill-resistant adds a gasket, so a knock on a desk buys you a second to grab it. Leak-proof is the only one that means what people hope all three mean: closed, on its side, in a bag, and nothing comes out.

The reason this table exists is that Ideus itself uses all three, and uses them accurately. The listing for the sliding lid says in plain words that it is not leak-proof, and it says so on the piece that sells the most. That is unusual and it is worth repeating rather than burying: a maker that names the limit of its own lid is easier to trust about the parts you cannot check.

So the rule this site follows is simple. If the listing states the lid is leak-proof, we print leak-proof. If it says the lid is splash-proof and adds that it is not leak-proof, we print splash-proof and we print the second half too. If it says nothing, we print nothing and tell you to treat the piece as upright-only, which is the assumption that never ruins anything.

One more thing that reviews argue about and no table can settle: a lid that seals when new depends on a silicone ring, and a silicone ring depends on being seated flat and clean. Most of the “it started leaking” complaints in this category, on every brand, are a gasket that came out in the dishwasher and went back in twisted. There is a two-minute check for that on the care page, and it is worth doing before you decide a lid has failed.
